How was the fishing trip? Where in MN are you? We vacation in Park Rapids every year, Potato Lake.
-
Fishing was good. A little slower this year than years past. We had a late ice out.
I live in Grand Rapids, about an hour and a half from there. I actually have spent a lot of time on Potatoe lake with some friends that have a cabin out there. I also used to hunt that way by a lake called Little Dinner.
When you coming up?

We’ll be up the first week in August, I think.
I just ordered most of your recommended tools. Didn’t pull the trigger on plank cutter yet. Think I should go for the <b style=”font-style: italic;”>D-Cut UX-350(This Cutter is $100 OFF) one you recommended on the site?

Sub floor was exposed to more time/sun/weather than I would’ve liked. Wishing I would’ve been aware of Zip System stuff. Anyway, most seams needing a few swipes with planer or belt sander.
-
What size/type trowel would you recommend for the Ardex? I really only have a few spots, one larger gouge in the subfloor but figured I’d fill in a few gaps since I’ll have some mixed up.

Just made it through the layout video. That is so much much for the instruction! So glad I found you. I’ll definitely bother you for your phone number when I get started.
Ordered my Flooret yesterday. We’re kinda bummed, because they did not have our first choice (Catura) in stock, and don’t expect any until Sep/Oct. We can’t wait that long. So…second choice (Arbor) it is. Hopefully that doesn’t bother me for the next 40 years. Ordered 2000ish sq ft.
Which one of your videos has a good explanation of the “glue the joint” method?
Also…is it ok to use a shorter piece to accommodate some desired outcome, like having a joint in two separate doorways on the same row? Or should shorter pieces only be used at the ends of the rows? Hopefully that question makes sense. If the plank is 6’ long, would you ever use a shorter piece in the middle of the row or would that look “off”?

*thanks so much for the instruction
(wish this thing had an edit function!)

Ok…yep the “short plank” question seems really silly now…of course I’d lose the locking system that way.
The bummer on the Flooret color choice deal is I tried to order on May 24, and the thing said orders before May 22 would be fulfilled. Two days late! When I asked about that, they explained they keep a reserve on hand for folks that are mid-project, like damaged planks or need a few more or whatever. I asked if they could just partially fill the order, but they weren’t having it. I understand, I guess….still seems like a great company.

Current kitchen obviously has cabinets and such, but I’m planning to do a kitchen remodel sometime in the next few years. Not that I have much of a choice, but should I just plank around current cabinets now, and plan to just place new cabinets on top of the flooring when the time comes? Because I’m assuming I’ll add some cabinets.
Also…as previously mentioned, I’ll likely remove some current (old house) bedroom/hallway walls and change the old bathroom walls. Plumbing and such will likely move. I don’t really want to wait to plank those areas, as the changes may not come for a few years. But… is that what I should do? Not plank that area yet? Can I frame on top of plank? When people remodel a planked area, do they generally have to rip the floor up? Even if they still want the same floor?

Joe! My Flooret arrived a few days ago. Got three dudes from the church small group to help me transfer it from the driveway to the upstairs addition…sheesh!
I hope to start laying some down this weekend. Might I trouble you for your phone number? And I’m hoping it turns out OK, even though I won’t be wearing the appropriate t-shirt.

My number is 218 256 8080. If I don’t answer, just leave a message and I will get back to you. I usually don’t work on the weekends, but I will help if I can.
