Preparing floor for LVP
We have recently removed two walls along with old kitchen cabinets and I hope these pictures do justice. Under the carpet there is particle board (which seems to be in good shape) on top of the subfloor. I’ve been delaying on removing the carpet because I don’t want to damage the particle board with water or something if it’s something we can keep under the LVP.
Is there a way to patch these floor scars so I’m not ripping everything down to the base subfloor and starting from there? With the amount of different layers is it going to be too much trouble to keep it all?
Also, we will be installing IKEA kitchen cabinets and I’m not sure if I should run the flooring under it or just up too it, and again would that change if the particle board was left under? The kitchen is extending into the carpeted area that is shown.
Any help would be appreciated as this is our first project and very overwhelming at the moment. Thanks in advance!

Hey Joe, thanks for the quick reply! From quick leveling it looks like the transition between the carpet area and the vinyl area is level if I remove the top layer of vinyl and thin wood sheet so I think that might be the best solution?
The previous owners had this vinyl area covered by LVP on top which I’ve already removed so if anything I think we might have gaps under jams. The gaps in the floor are old HVAC that is getting relocated.
As for the particle board, is it okay to rip carpet up now and walk across it? I’ve heard horror stories of this stuff and I wouldn’t want water from shoes or anything to mess it up but I didn’t want to have to wait until last min to prepare it for flooring to go down.
I will add a few more photos but not sure how to best some of it. The part I’m pulling up is what I would tear up across all the vinyl correct?
