  • Build up floor or remove tile?

Hi @joeletendre and all, I’m planning to install laminate across the entire first floor of our home. Currently there is old laminate, carpet and tile. I would really like to lay the laminate over the tile to avoid having to demo the tile, but then I will be much higher in those areas (hallway, kitchen) than others e.g. that have carpet directly on the subfloor. Is it possible to get a good result by raising the subfloor up to the level of the tile, and if so what would you recommend (e.g. plywood), or might I be better off biting the bullet and demo’ing the tile floor? Thanks!

I wanted to add that the subfloor is concrete. The tile runs through about 700 sq ft of the total 2000 sq ft floor plan. I probably would have about 7 doors that would need to be cut :/

Thank you so much Joe, that was incredibly helpful. I’ll look into this and let you know how it goes. God bless you and good luck with your surgery!
