Where to start / Blueprint
Posted by Patrick on May 3, 2021 at 2:28 amI “think” I would start in the left corner of the pantry. The angled cuts and door jams have me worried though 🙁

Thanks Joe.
I would indeed be running north to south starting in the bottom left of the panty. At least that’s my thought trying to minimize working backwards. On the left side of the pantry and the hallway coming in to the center of the room has hardwood oak flooring coming North South.
We’re putting in stone style laminate plank replacing the old linoleum.
Thank you for all you do!
The first photo is take standing looking out the left of the plan facing West.
The second is the one coming into the kitchen standing at the center of the drawing facing north.

Is your plank 12 x 24? And if it is are you doing a brick pattern?

The planks are 16X32. We were looking at these two:
The wife likes this one it is thinner and has less wear layer…
This one would be acceptable to her too. It’s almost thick enough to run up to my hardwoods with no transition and has a much thicker wear layer:

We haven’t opened any of it yet so she could be swayed to go with the thicker material if it’s going to be significantly better.

Thanks Joe,
The wife is really fine with either flooring model. Should have joined earlier you’ve been a great help ????. I can get samples from the store for $5 each without opening a box so let me do that. The groove is on the right on both of these but the grove on the bigger plank is more substantial I believe. I’ll take some shots and send you way.
We have a larger dog (greyhound) and two small kids. We didn’t know if the wear layer would just prevent deep scratches or more of how the floor would last over the years and.

ok. get the sample and send me some pics, then I will be able to give you a really detailed blueprint.

A few shots.
The planks have the grove on the right and bottom when facing them. Couple shots.
First one is the short end of the plank looking down the right side.
Second one is long edge looking at it from the left side down to the end.
Last two are the bottom of the thin plank.
I have some photos of the back of the board and of the other thicker plank which has a beefier locking system. Can send those if you need them.

Thicker plank just for reference if it matters.

So started laying the tiles out and I feel sick to even ask this.. With the way the brick pattern lays out it looks better going East / West instead of north south. If it was plank it looks better north south 🙁 Based on the north-south layout I think I would start with the top left forward of the angled area. I took a stab at where the brick layout lines were. I wasn’t sure where to drop my main line and the right place to start.
Gave you another version of the drawing with a few dimensions.
Thank you

the previous blueprint gave me all the techniques I needed I’d just need any suggestions on where to secure the floor, starting and dealing with angles since I’d be coming at it going down the tile instead of length wise. So you don’t need to create a whole new blueprint video with that deal of detail.

Sorry was typing quickly. I want to run the planks east west in the room here’s a picture of the top left of the room where I think I’d start. (those are not the final tiles just some we had laying around to give the wife an idea of the patter and she liked that orientation better. So would I start that first row where I have a straight line away from the angles and then work backwards to fill in the angled portion?
You’ll notice I had a pretty bad low spot which I got the first coat down to fix it’s almost level now 😮
