Todd’s Floor Project
Posted by Todd on June 26, 2024 at 9:00 amHi Joe – I would like your input on where to start and the order of progression you would recommend. It is a manufactured home with two halves and a marriage wall. I think I would establish the main layout line the full length of the house from the hallway on left through bedroom on right. After that, I am not sure the best place to start so would love your help.
Regards,
Todd

Also, the flooring is CoreTec Originals Premium. I believe it would be considered drop and lock but not sure what side would be considered tongue or groove and therefore what would be forward or backward on install. Both sides seem to have a tongue, one just on top and other on the bottom. Attaching a few pics to get help identifying.
Thanks!

Hi Joe,
My thoughts on layout and where to start.
Next, do the office, bedroom on same side of house? They should match up if I measure accurately, correct? Then move into the other side of the house. But where?
Looks like only small amount of “backwards” in a couple of closets if I am thinking correctly. However, I don’t know what is considered forward/backward on this locking system.
Looking forward to your input.

Good morning –
I was thinking again about where to start. If I start in LR where I suggested, will the bedroom and office on the same side of the house need to be installed backwards, or can I measure off the main layout line and they will match up when I get into the area of the main line?
Thanks,
Todd

<div>Hi Joe,</div>
Thanks so much for your response. I have been watching so many of your videos I feel like I know you! So blessed to have found your site.
One question I have is about doing the bedroom/office backwards. Why couldn’t I at least do the bedroom forwards because my layout line goes through the entire room? I am measuring off that line on where to start in LR, so why not measure off it to start the bedroom on same wall? Is the wall in between pose too much risk of not meeting up properly?
Thanks so much for your help.

Todd

Hi Joe –
Installation seems to be going well so far with your instructions. We tapped both side and end of every plank install with my wife watching the joint to make sure it was tight. However, when we got up to start again, overnight it appears a few of the butt joints loosened up a bit. Are we doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Todd

Hi Joe –
Thanks to your advice, all my doorways came out with plank partially through the doorway….except for one. I am stumped on how to install the floor for this.
The total span is 90 1/2″. The door is a 28″ door. The wall of the closet is 3.5″ (2×3 walls). The 7″ plank comes out so it will be on both sides of the doorway, about 2″ on one side and 1.5″ on the other. I believe I need to use a full 48″ plank to have the locking system at both ends. I can’t figure out how to position the planks so that I can “straddle” the jamb and wall.
I would really appreciate your expertise on how you would do this.

Todd

Todd, I am not able to show you how to do this using video. I am out of the office until late Friday. It would be best to have a butt joint at the dorrjamb on the right side to get the plank in place. This way you only have tgat plank wrapping around the left jamb as it will slide under the right side maybe a half inch.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for reply. I will look for your video when you get back as I am not sure I fully understand.
I know what you mean on having butt joint on right side, but not sure how I get it to wrap around both sides of the wall and also extend back to previous row in the hallway. It seems like I would have to cut off the piece that goes on the inside of the closet and glue it in after putting the rest in.
Thanks,
Todd

Hi Joe –
I have another question on how you would do this patio door. There was some rot under the old door so they put in a new plate under the new door and it is higher than the subfloor. When I put the plank on the subfloor it is about flush with the top of the wood plate under the door. I would like your ideas on how to finish this.
Thanks,
Todd

Hi Joe –
Also not sure what I should do with exterior door thresholds. I have two that are perpendicular (picture of one where I brought plank up to threshold) and one that is parallel (not done yet).
Should I be putting some sort of transition piece in these?
Thanks,
Todd
