Riem Blueprint Request
Posted by riem.kyle on January 26, 2023 at 10:59 pmJoe,
We have LVP on order and are super excited to get rid of our 20 year old carpet! We have a very strange floorplan, and we are stumped on the layout. We have some ideas, but after seeing your videos on youtube we decided it would definitely be worth asking an expert. Side note — we love how you end your videos and pray in Jesus name that your prayers reach people and bring them to Christ. Amen!
We have wood subfloors and the house was built in 1990. We bought the house from my grandparents, and I was able to find an original drawing that my Grandpa had saved. Any areas in red are not going to be LVP. If you have any questions or need clarification or additional photos of anything, let us know! I am happy to draw something up with the software you recommend in your video, but figured I would try this first. Excited to start our project in the next couple of weeks when flooring arrives!
Thanks,
Kyle and Lauren

Hey Joe, thanks for the quick response!
I have attached some pics. To answer some questions you asked in your screencast: The white line I had marked on the drawing was going to be a wall originally, but they went with a load bearing post instead, and did not ever put in a wall; the subfloor is wood; and the linen closet you noted has a traditional hinge door that swings out into the hallway. Let us know if you need clarification on anything else!
In terms of plank direction, we have a couple ideas, but are unsure of what would look best in the end, and would like to avoid transitions if possible. That being said, we are excited to see your layout recommendations.

Joe,
We’re in Reno, NV! It’s been a snowy winter for us too so far.
Regarding the floor plans you showed, we are on board with plan #1! Being able to snap a line all the way across the house will be super helpful and I think keeping the planks square to the main living area will look best.
In the back bedroom labelled “Hobbies” on the drawing, there is a sliding closet door with a track on the floor, so that will have to be separate from the rest of the flooring. With that, have you ever used these as transitions? I attached a pic for you of the track.
We went with Home Depot Lifeproof flooring. We do not have the planks yet, but they are scheduled to come in sometime next week. The link has more info on the flooring but I also attached a pic of the locking system. Let me know if you need anything else!

Hi Joe,
Thanks so much for the blueprint. We are so close to starting our project and are super excited. I did have one question as I am going through slowly taking notes. I may have more questions as I go along but wanted to post them as I have them.At minute 42, you talk about the severe angled cuts, and keeping the plank square to the snapped line down the hall. That all makes sense to me. What I am having trouble understanding is how screwing every other plank down to secure it in that section will work with our baseboards. Will we need to install quarter round in this section to hide those screws, or do you have a method of securing the flooring that could be hidden by baseboards?
Thanks!

We have quarter round in case it we need it but don’t like the look of it and hope to return it.
We plan to remove the baseboards and reinstall them after flooring is in

Hey Joe!
Wanted to share some pics with you from our first weekend working on our floors! So far, everything is going perfect. We made it around the wall (after lots of measuring to make sure we were going to be ok) and back into the hall. I did share a picture of a small piece of plank that is installed in the entryway that looks like it had been chipped before installing and we missed it. If it was anywhere else, I wouldn’t mind, but since it is in the middle of the entry way, I would like to prevent it from getting any worse. Any tips on how to seal that up/replace that plank?

Hey Joe,
Thanks so much for the encouragement. We are so happy with how it is turning out. Thankful for our community group through church for helping out big time and making demo and install go much faster.
That ding in the floor is in the row right before the main room row, so I am just going to pull it up back to there and replace the plank. Thanks for all the suggestions!
I attached some pictures of the fireplace. What do you think would look best as a transition between the LVP and the mortar?
Also, another update: finished our kitchen last night. It looks amazing, and we can’t wait for our next project of painting the cabinets and getting new countertops in the coming months. So excited about how it is turning out. We REALLY appreciate your attention to detail on the blueprint you provided us. I can’t say how thankful I am for that, it has really made a huge difference and made the project go so smoothly. I can’t stop talking about you to all of our friends, so hope you get some more business from Reno in the near future!
