    Hi Joe,

Sorry for the delay. I’ve been stuck with the stair nose issue. I finally talked to a specialist at the Shaw factory about the stair nose. He said that they don’t make the flush mount stair nose anymore because it doesn’t comply with the ADA requirements. (trip hazard) He said that I could certainly use an overlap stair nose, but they don’t make them anymore. So, it might be hard to find one. I have not been able to find one online. The rep instructed me that to use the flush mount stair nose, I would need to glue 12-15″ from the end of each board that abuts the stair nose.

    What do you think?

    Thanks!

You can do what you think works best for your situation. I would use an overlapping nose. If you cannot find one, look here – https://versatrim.com/stair-solutions

    they sell many colors.

That comes in 60 different colors. Do you have a suggestion on how I can match the Olive Tree floor?

I spoke with Versatrim. They don’t have the Olive Tree in their database. Their only suggestion is to send them a full plank and they can custom manufacture a matching trim piece, with caveats that it will only match one board, and Olive Tree has a lot of color variation.

    Hi Joe,

Thanks very much for your explanation of the issues with using a flush mount stair nose. I will go ahead and use an overlapping stair nose. I received more confirmation from Shaw that they don’t make an overlapping stair nose. So, I looked around and found one from Home Depot that is pretty close.

    Hi Joe,

I’ve been busy leveling my floors with Feather Finish. Taking forever. I’ve used close to 30 bags so far. We discussed that over in the floor prep forum.

So, now I’m measuring the walls in preparation to start laying the flooring. I discovered that the front wall of my house is not straight. I ran a string 12″ from the front baseboard at each front corner of my house. The measurement varies between 10.5″ and 12″ along the front wall.

Does this affect the layout of the flooring?

I created a spreadsheet to calculate the seam locations in relation to the openings and pasted it below. My goal was to place a seam in the doorways to the closet, LR and DR openings and the pantry.

    Did I do it right?

If so, I assume I should start laying planks with the row that starts at 10.6″? Then, fill in the first two rows later.

    Thanks!

    Mike

      Hi Joe,

Thanks for mentioning the buildup around the corners. I hadn’t thought of that.

Apparently, I can’t pull a string straight. I remeasured with a laser and the front wall was mostly straight with a variation of 11 7/8″ to 12 1/8″. Much better. The front door is also recessed 1/2″.

Distances from front wall to back of each door opening are within 1/4″

The living room center wall is 11.5″ thick (plumbing wall). So, it will have a full width plank in the opening. Other door openings (closet, DR, foyer and pantry) are 5.25″ and will have a seam in the opening. I measured to all of the other openings that run the other way, too (bathroom and basement doors). Not sure if those measurements matter.

That sounds much better!! The other doors really do not matter.
