Mike's Cottage Blueprint
Posted by mdoherty on August 22, 2022 at 3:00 pmJoe, just found the site and thank God you have everything in one place. Wondering if you could assist with the attached. Single floor, and you can see by the front door that is where i’m thinking of starting with vinyl laid lengthwise moving into the great room.
Boards are SPC plank 7″ x 48″ with attached pad.
Thoughts on blueprint?
Thanks, Mike in Canada

Many welcome Joe, love your videos and I hope business is well. All the best to the family.
1) Photo of T&G coming tomorrow morning, my product is up at the cottage and i’ll be onsite in the morning.
2) All wood subfloor.
3) I cleaned up the image, not sure if that will help you or not or if you need it done another way. Attached as FILE #1 here.
4) All rooms currently planned for the luxury vinyl, even both the bath and the ensuite.
5) Only area not planned would be under kitchen cabinets (and maybe the granite countertop island? One of my questions to ask you) where I’d have cabinets right on the wood sub floor. Attached as FILE #2 here with highlighted cabinets in blue.
Best, Mike

Afternoon sir.
1) Photos of vinyl plank T&Gs attached here
2) Definitely N/S (as you sketched) is how I was planning to go
3) Cabinets (highlighted in blue, including island) on previous drawings will be in first pre-flooring. Thus, I’d like to begin with some flooring (i.e. Master/Ensuite/WIC + hallwall/entry then Bedroom #3) and leave out the Great Room/kitchen until the end.
Regards, Mike

Thank you sir for working at it. As long as I (we, as my wife is my installing partner lol) have a partial before the weekend I’m good.
As for the comments, we are actually ok to start however you deem fit with the T&G combination. Even if that meant starting in bedroom #2 and the 2nd bath instead….or even the front hallway. The only reason i wanted to avoid the hallway for now (but isn’t 100% necessary) is for cabinet delivery as I didn’t want any chance of damage.
So in summary, wherever you deem best start (which may not be master bedroom anymore), I’m ok with.
We’ll still leave out the great room regardless until cabinets in.
Thanks, look forward to hearing from you.

Joe, two days over the weekend and these are the results on the master into ensuite into hallway. You have been a saving grace, thank you. Will continue to update with questions. Will resume this weekend.

Afternoon Joe, hope the week has gone well. Back at it again tomorrow. 2 easy questions:
1) Any issue you foresee with the bathroom vanities sitting on the floor? (kitchen cabinets no, but vanities are floating so there should be no issue, correct?)
2) How much of a gap do maintain adjacent to the one piece tub and the shower base, still 1/4″ such as we did everywhere else and then caulk that? or is less ok to make caulking easier?
Thanks, Mike

Vanities are not a problem to sit on the plank and I would leave an 1/8 inch gap at the tub and shower.

1) I’ve reached my kitchen island now (which will eventually be a waterfall countertop not yet installed) , should I also leave 1/8 inch gap to side of it here as well similar to tub/shower? or should it be 1/4 inch. See photos #1 and #2
2) For around toilet flanges, should I cut in a square or curve or does it not really matter?
3) Following #2, For around toilet flanges, how far from outside of flange should I leave a space?
Many thanks, Mike
