Just joined today and I have a question
Posted by Doug on September 30, 2021 at 3:35 pm@joeletendre Just joined today and you’ve already saved me over $150 on my 1,700 sq ft vinyl plank project with your video about eliminating those pricy transition strips to transition vinyl to carpet with Zbar. Love that video! My goal is to install my vinyl plank to appear as a wood floor installation. I will try not to use any transition strips or quarter round. I could use your help to tell me how to I approach the transition from vinyl to these doors. I’m looking for options where I would not need to install a transition strip. Note: The white tile in these photos is our current floor. The tile will remain as we plan to place the vinyl over the tile

@joeletendre you just blew my mind! First when I noticed that you had replied to my question in just a few minutes I was pleasantly surprised. When I saw that you sent a link I laughed…thinking that you had simply sent me a link to one of your existing videos. When I opened the link to view your video and I realized that you had recorded this video for me I was just blown away! I know of no other site or group where this happens!
To answer your questions: White tile in front of each door is ceramic tile. We plan to lay the new vinyl plank floor directly on top of this tile. Additional pictures have been added for context. I have also included a pic showing that my vinyl sitting on the moisture pad is indeed higher than the existing door frame. Even if I remove the moisture pad the vinyl is higher than the door frame. THANK YOU for your assistance!

@joeletendre HUGE thank you for your assistance and the many options for me to explore here, Joe. Drilling into the concrete to attach anything will not be a problem for me since I’m already doing that in the rooms that require 1/2 inch concrete board to level up to the tile. To answer your question concerning what is underneath my ceramic tile, this would be concrete. My stairs and landing on the second floor will also be covered with vinyl plank and those areas have wood as a subfloor so I have a great mix here to work with. Thanks again for your prompt and thorough response to my question. Joining your Laminate University has definitely boosted my confidence to complete this project successfully!

@joeletendre I have one additional question for you concerning subfloor. I am installing 1/2 inch concrete board in each room where I have removed carpet. Placing 1/2 inch concrete board in each of these rooms will level the floor to our ceramic tile so I will be able to place our vinyl plank in all rooms on the same level surface. My question: In an area where I have had to apply thinset over the concrete board where I have covered the 1/8 inch gap between two boards (ref picture below), would I need to re-cut this seam between the two concrete boards so that I have a 1/8 gap between each of the 2 joining boards for expansion?

@joeletendre Hey Joe, 24 hours ago I never knew what ZBAR was, but today I successfully installed this in 4 transitions and the results were amazing. Another point: When I started watching your free UTUBE videos, you suggested a tool. I think it was a laminate cutter hand tool. It was only $7 for on that jungle site. I bought it because you said I should. Today I realized 2 things. (1) The laminate tool that you recommended has quickly become my #1 tool of preference. (2) Based on the prompt and thorough response you provided to me with my questions as a new “one year” Laminate University subscriber, I would have paid $499 for a one year membership. When you responded to my questions within 10 minutes with a personal video that you had created for me I was blown away. I don’t know how you can scale this to thousands, but I just wanted you to know that your value prop, from my experience, benefits me! Thank you many times over!
