I think the direction of planks is great.

I will work on picking out the plank.

If I choose a pad to lay down first any recommendations on a product?

Also, when starting to plank where you suggest what happens if I get to the hall and board widths are not relatively even at the walls? I guess I could start at the first row as you suggest but trim it so that the hallway boards line up ok?
