So I would like to start in the dining or living room running east-west direction. I am not sure if I need to start with a full size plank (width) so I don’t end with a 2” strip at the end. Do I need to staple ¼” underlayment down before I start laying my noise barrier underlayment then the plank? Does it matter if my floor joists run north-south and I want to lay planks east-west? I did post a new picture with dimensions I measured sheet rock to sheet rock and added an island that wasn’t shown in the plans. Do I just lay the flooring up to the cabinets and island in the kitchen? They are currently sitting on tile planks that I need to remove today.

I will just go around the island. It is an IKEA island and the previous owners screwed it to the floor. Regarding the underlayment, I probably didn’t explain it well. I was talking about the 4’x4’ ¼” plywood to staple down every 6 inches I think I read. I am hoping that is not necessary which it sounds like it isn’t.

But is the ¼” underlayment necessary? The subfloor seems to be level. I have placing a 4 foot level around the floor to check it.

No, it is not necessary. What was the reason you were going to do it?

I just saw it on other YouTube videos before I found yours. Attached are pictures of the IKEA cabinets and island. The counter top is very heavy so not sure I want to move them. Not sure how it would look if i left them on the ceramic tile. I am removing the ceramic tile everywhere else. What are your thoughts?

For the upstairs layout I think we will go east-west as well. Preferably the easiest way.

It looks like ½” concrete board and ¼” tile.

Hi Joe….thanks for the blueprints. Is there anything different I need to do if I go around the island? The original blueprint didn’t have the island. 2nd question…If I don’t move the cabinets, should I leave the range on the ceramic tile too? If I move the range and put planks under it the counter tops won’t be level with the top of the range.

When I put my last piece in does it matter if I have a ¼” gap from the edge of sheet rock to my plank? The trim should cover it but I came up short on one cut. I have been trying to put it under the sheet rock with a small gap between the 2×4’s and plank. BTW… I didn’t realize how much work getting ceramic tile up! Good thing only a quarter of the first floor was tile. Thanks again and hope you have a great weekend.

Now that the tile is removed I have a big gap between the door casings (6 doors) and the vinyl planks. Any suggestions how to fix the gap?
