Blue prints attached & in need of guidance
Posted by Christopher on November 8, 2021 at 1:05 pmHey Joe,
I’m excited to find a Christian professional to help me out with this flooring project. We are building a house and we’re responsible for the flooring. I don’t shy away from hands on projects, so I’ve decided to tackle the project myself. I’ll attach the floor plan of the house. I plan on two different styles of LVP for the house. The entire living space of the house will have LVP. I have one LVP style that will go into the 2.5 baths, the LVP dimensions are 7.13″ W x 48.03″ L. The second LVP style will cover every other square inch of living space in the house, the LVP dimensions are 7.01″ W x 48.62″ L. I will put transition pieces from the bathrooms to adjoining spaces. I plan on putting a thin vapor barrier over the cement slab.
This will be the first time I’ve attempted putting in any type of flooring. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and pumped to find your Laminate U. I know it’s a big flooring project for the first time. If you could instruct me what area to start from in the house, what direction you recommend laying the LVP, and any other tips that may help. I will pull the toilets out and all the appliances will be out of the house. I look forward to hearing back from you and again thanks, God bless the work you do!
Bathroom LVP – 7.13″ W x 48.03″ L
Everywhere else – 7.01″ W x 48.62″ L

LVP for bathrooms. I planned on having the planks run the same direction as the rest of the house (assuming North and South, Up and down, I guess). The only problem with that decision is when it comes to the 2nd bathroom (kids bath), it appears to make more sense going lengthwise with the bathroom. My wife and I don’t have a preference either way.
LVP for rest of house.
I don’t have the actual planks yet, they are being ordered. I pulled these pic off the website.
Thanks Joe, have a great week.

Hey Joe,
Your correct with the N/S direction, I like the best too. Starting in the master bedroom was where I also thought would be the best place to start. I plan on putting the darker LVP in the entire master bath, second bath and the 1/2 bath, (not just the toilet area). I haven’t purchased the LVP’s yet, so I had to pull the pics from the stores website. I’m have to order the light colored one. I put links for the two different LVP’s.
Light colored LVP, covering a majority of the house:

Dark colored LVP, covering the bathroom areas:
Hopefully this answers you questions. Let me otherwise.

Evening Joe,
Sorry, I sent this to you 2 days ago and it didn’t go through. I was going to put a vapor barrier underlayment down. Is there a different way to pop chalk lines on the underlayment? I plan on putting screws in the cement. The builder will already have the trim up. I figured it would be easier to just put quarter round down over the LVP, you agree or should I just pull the trim off?
Thanks,
Chris

Yes the trim will be painted. Besides the flooring and appliances that set on the floor, everything in the house will be complete. Like ready to move-in. The building supervisor recommended just putting down quarter round. I’m looking at quarter round as just another cost. One that I’ll do if needed and have done before. I understand it will be needed around island and vanities. I just wanted to get your input or suggestion.

Yes, i would then use quarter round. As far as the vapor barrier goes, you will need to cut it to get access to your line and then tape it when you put it back into place.

It’s been a couple months since last conversation. The house construction has slowed down. We just got sheetrock up. Trim and painting should be next. I’ll send you the pictures of the door moldings. I also need to ask for a favor. The original LVP for the bathroom has changed. If I give you the dimensions of the new bathroom LVP can you help me out with the plans? I have questions about the way the cuts will set up next to the shower (looks to be 45°) & bath tub in master and also the bathtub in other bathroom. https://www.lowes.com/pd/SMARTCORE-Ultra-8-Piece-12-in-x-24-in-Florence-Travertine-Locking-Luxury-Vinyl-Tile/1000789136. I also know I’ll need t-moulding for the transitions. The bathroom LVP is thicker than the LVP going through the rest of the house. Any advice?
Thanks,

Shate a drawing and I can help. You will need to use a tmolding in the bathrooms.

I attached a screenshot of the LVP we purchased to go in the bathrooms. I guess that’s what you meant from shoot you a picture.

Chris, I guess I must have mis understood what you are asking. Can you please let me know what direction you want the tile to run in the bathrooms and what type of pattern you want to use? Brick pattern, thirds and ect… Thanks Chris.

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the clarification. For some reason, I was thinking I was going to put the LVP “tile” together to look like tile on the floor. I’m guessing that doesn’t work. So, I don’t have a preference of directions or how we should have them lay out. I’m really open to your suggestions. I don’t know what you thirds suggestion if though.
Thanks,

Hey Chris, thanks for the info! I will get this to you by Monday. I am on the road and have been experiencing some technical difficulties making blueprints. I am sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Hey Joe, I’ve uploaded some videos of areas I wanted to get your input on before I get started. I had to do some editting on some of them because of lenth, so some of the audio is cut off. Most important ones are around the shower area and the legs that extend from the island. The others are dealing with advice around trim/door jams. Thanks Joe.
