    Thanks for your time and reply. Ultimately, you answered the one question that I was hoping you would answer: if I should replace those treads.

    My wife and I have had multiple discussions this last weekend on what we wanted to do. I think we are leaning toward using the plank we have after we replace the current treads. The current boards are 2×12, but I need to trim back some off of each step for the new risers and flush mount noses that will be on the steps. But I guess if I’m replacing the step, I can trim that off beforehand.

    In doing all of that, I will be taking off the current riser boards, which are fairly thin OSB, and they are cut all wonky. I have painted MDF risers already to install, but might replace the current OSB beforehand to keep it all clean.

    As for the overlapping stair nose, I was just letting you know that after our previous conversations, I decided not to try modifying the flush mount noses I have for the rest of the stairs. Instead, I purchased two overlapping noses to follow your instructions, as what you said on why to use them makes sense.
