  • Large gap from new flooring to base moulding

Posted by STEVE on May 4, 2021 at 7:07 pm

I removed old Parkay wooden flooring and carpet from my basement and laid Cortec LVP. The new flooring looks great but the existing baseboard is 1/2″ above it. I want to install 3/4″ shoe moulding but the 1/2″ gap presents a problem. My thought is to place a 1/2″ sq wooden rod into the gap and nail or glue this in place prior to attaching the shoe See pics. Do you think this will work? Do you have any other recommendation? Thank you

Thank you Joe for the prompt reply. However, I am not using 3/4″ quarter round. I am using a PVC type base shoe made by Trimfinity that is 7/16 x 3/4. Seems if I tried nailing this without anything behind it that it would tend to roll out some and not be tight at the top.

Also, do you ever caulk under/behind the shoe to make the installation more waterproof?

    Thanks for your help,

    Steve

I dont, but if you do, then use silicone.
