Low spots in concrete floor
OK, Joe… after long last, I have received the delivery of my Costco LVT… Only took 2 months. 🙂
As I mentioned in my blueprint request, the first area that I’m laying LVT is my woodshop in one of 3 bays in my garage. It’s walled off and I’m setting it up as a woodshop. Anyway…
I followed your “put a light next to a level” technique to find low spots, and I found more than a few. One is particularly troublesome, so I made a video to get your take on things.
1. Is there a minimum depth of a low spot that I should worry about? As in, if I’ve got a 1.5 foot circumference circle that is 1/8″ lower than the rest of the floor, is that something that I should address, or is that too shallow to worry about? I’m guessing you’ll say fix it, but I just thought I’d ask.
2. The real problem is this two-section low spot in a corner of the room, but with a high spot 1/8-3/16″) right in the apex of that corner. If I put the level there, that whole corner of the room appears to be a low spot, not just the sections I marked next to the wall. I’m thinking of applying thinset in a 6′ quarter-circle in the whole corner, then screeding using the high spot as my pivot point. It will still be a high spot in the corner, but the rise will be gradual, so I’m thinking it’ll be OK.
3. How long do I have once I’ve mixed up the Henry’s 549? It’s easier to mix a large batch, but I don’t want it to set up on me. 🙂Here’s a youtube video just for you:
